Inachos ·
Flood Early Warning System
Research-oriented prototype system for spatial flood risk assessment in near real time, with application to the Greek territory.
Inachos is the platform that visualizes and disseminates spatially distributed flood risk estimates for the Greek territory. The estimates are produced by the Dynamic Flood Hazard Assessment Model (DFHAM), which combines dynamic hydrometeorological drivers (e.g. rainfall and antecedent soil moisture) with static spatial indicators (topography, runoff concentration and spatial vulnerability), per 500 m grid cell. The system is intended for scenario analysis, educational use and research applications.
What is Inachos?
Inachos is a research system that organizes, visualizes and disseminates spatially distributed flood risk estimates for the Greek territory. The computational core of the system is the Dynamic Flood Hazard Assessment Model (DFHAM), which transforms hydrometeorological inputs and geospatial indicators into a single flood risk index per grid cell.
- Fixed-resolution grid (500 m)
- 1-hour time step (t = 0–72 h)
- Combination of dynamic drivers (P₆h, API) with static spatial indicators
Who it is for
Inachos is addressed to users and organizations requiring rapid, spatially distributed flood risk assessment for scenario analysis and research/educational applications, without the computational complexity of full two-dimensional hydraulic simulations. The system is not an official operational tool.
- ✔ For hydrological/spatial analysis & early warning (research context)
- ✔ For educational/academic use
- ✘ Not an official operational tool
- ✘ Does not replace Civil Protection guidance
Rainfall map
Integration of external sources (e.g. meteorological data and forecasts) on the same map as flood risk estimates.
Experimental area-based alerts
Test alerts for selected grid cells or administrative units, based on thresholds of the H(t) index (DFHAM).
Statistical episode summary
Summary table with number of events, maximum H(t) values and comparative information for selected rainfall episodes.
